Discussion:
Stop the totalitarian Pledge of Allegiance

Few students or teachers know that the pledge was written in 1892 by a
self-proclaimed socialist in the U.S. nationalist movement, to promote
socialism.

Few people know that the original salute to the flag was like the Nazi
salute and that "Nazi" means "National Socialist German Workers' Party."
(Eye-popping photos are only at http://members.ij.net/rex/pledge1.html ) An
easy mnemonic device to remember that Nazis were socialists and that "Nazi"
means "National Socialist German Workers' Party" is that the horrid swastika
resembles overlapping "S" shapes for "socialism," and that the Nazis often
used stylized "S" symbolism. (See
http://members.ij.net/rex/swastikanews.html )

The pledge of allegiance was authored by the self-proclaimed socialist
Francis Bellamy. Bellamy was the first cousin of the socialist Edward
Bellamy. Edward Bellamy's futuristic novel, "Looking Backward," was
published in 1888, and described life in the year 2000. It described a
totalitarian society where all private transactions are outlawed, where the
government places all men in an "industrial army" and where the monolithic
government school system is operated specifically as part of the "industrial
army" system. Of course, all of the preceding was portrayed as a dandy
utopia just as it was portrayed by so many apologists for the industrial
armies of socialist hell-holes worldwide.

The book spawned a socialist movement in the U.S. known as "Nationalism,"
with the Nationalist magazine, and "Nationalist Clubs" whose members wanted
the federal government to nationalize most of the American economy. Francis
Bellamy was a member of this movement and a vice president of its socialist
auxiliary group.

Francis Bellamy had often lectured on the so-called "virtues of socialism
and the evils of capitalism." In 1891, he was forced to resign from his
church because of his socialist activities and sermons. He then joined the
staff of the magazine "Youth's Companion" and wrote the pledge of
allegiance, first published therein.

In the original articles about the Pledge of Allegiance, Francis Bellamy
promotes government schools and snipes at the many better alternatives, and
urges that education should come only from government. It is consistent
with the government school monopoly in the book "Looking Backward" and the
"industrial army" promoted by the Bellamys.

Bellamy lived during the time when schools were becoming socialized heavily
in the United States. When the U.S. Constitution was written, children
received private educations (schools are not mentioned in the U.S.
Constitution).

Edward Bellamy's book was translated into 20 foreign languages. It was
popular among the elite in pre-revolutionary Russia, and was even read by
Lenin's wife. John Dewey and the historian Charles Beard intended to praise
the book when they stated that it was matched in influence only by Das
Kapital.

Francis Bellamy lived from 1855 to1931. Edward Bellamy lived from 1850-1898.
Edward Bellamy was spared witnessing the horrors that his socialism caused
to the rest of humanity. Francis Bellamy lived in the U.S. during the first
14 years of mass atrocities under the industrial army of the Union of Soviet
Socialist Republics. Francis Bellamy might not have known about the horrors
of his socialist ideas in the U.S.S.R. at that time. Francis Bellamy lived
long enough to see a similar salute and philosophy espoused by the
industrial army of the National Socialist German Workers' Party. If Edward
Bellamy's fictional character had awakened in the year 2000 he would have
learned that since 1887 Bellamy's philosophy had set and was holding all the
worst records for shortages, poverty, misery, starvation, atrocities and
mass slaughter.

According to R. J. Rummel's article in the Encyclopedia of Genocide (1999)
the worst trio of socialist atrocities (see
Loading Image...) occurred under the industrial
armies of: (1) the Union of Soviet Socialist Republics, 62 million deaths,
1917-'87; (2) People's Republic of China, 35 million, 1949-'87; (3) Germany
under the National Socialist German Workers' Party, 21 million, 1933-'45.

After the National Socialist German Workers' Party tried to impose socialism
on the world, many U.S. citizens were disturbed by the Pledge's similar
salute and that it was written by a socialist in "Nationalist" groups in the
U.S. Although the salute changed, the pledge remained the same.

There is something more disturbing than all of the above: Most children are
never told any of the preceding history in government schools, even though
there is often a totalitarian-style robotic recital of the pledge as a
collective by children in government schools en masse on cue from the
government every single day.

It is a wonder why anyone recites the Pledge of Allegiance. It is probably
because of rampant ignorance about the Pledge's origin and history.

No one would trust the government to tell you the truth if it ran the
newspapers. Why would anyone expect the government to tell children the
truth in government schools? As Libertarians say: The separation of school
and state is as important as the separation of church and state. And that is
the real solution to the pledge debate and all other school issues: remove
government from education.

May Day was declared a working class holiday by the First International
in Paris in June 1889. The day was picked in commemoration of the
strikes of May 1, 1886 over the 8 hour workday. These strikes
culminated in the Chicago Haymarket massacre on May 2, 1886.

Adolph Hitler was born in 1886. Joe Stalin was born in 1879. I doubt
either of them were even attended the Paris meeting that turned May Day
into a working class holiday.

Lenin's wife. John Dewey and the historian Charles Beard intended to praise
the book by stating that it was matched in influence only by Das Kapital.

Did Bellamy foresee soviet-style rationing, or did he inspire it?

Bellamy’s is the same socialist naivete that resulted in 7 million persons
who perished from 1932-33 in the famine that resulted in Europe’s
“breadbasket” after the Union of Soviet Socialist Republics imposed
collectivist land management in the Ukraine. By the spring of 1933, an
estimated 25,000 people died every day in the Ukraine. It is the same
socialist naivete that resulted in 27 million people starving to death in
1958 in the so-called “Great Leap Forward” in China. Was the “Great Leap
Forward” inspired by “Looking Backward”?

If Bellamy's fictional character had awakened in the year 2000 he would
learn that since 1887 Bellamy's philosophy had set and was holding all the
worst records for shortages, poverty, misery, starvation, atrocities and
mass slaughter. Edward Bellamy lived from 1850–1898, and died in Chicopee,
Massachusetts and was spared witnessing the horrors that his socialism
caused to the rest of humanity.

The original Pledge of Allegiance to the U.S. flag as dictated by Francis
Bellamy used a straight-arm salute, not the hand-over-the-heart (see rare
historic photos at http://members.ij.net/rex/pledge1.html). Francis Bellamy
died in 1931, living long enough to see a similar salute and a similar
philosophy espoused by the National Socialist German Workers' Party.

As the only person on the internet who collects, exposes and writes about
historical photos of the original socialist salute to the U.S. flag, I
consider Edward Bellamy’s book (and the Bellamy cousins' ideas) terrifying.

Supreme Court Dismisses 'Pledge' Case

Monday, June 14, 2004

WASHINGTON - "One nation, under God," will remain, at least temporarily, in
the Pledge of Allegiance (search), the Supreme Court ruled Monday, saying a
California atheist could not challenge the patriotic oath.

But whether or not the pledge recited by generations of American
schoolchildren is an unconstitutional blending of church and state was not
directly addressed at the procedural ruling.

The court said the atheist could not sue to ban the pledge from his
daughter's school and others because he did not have legal authority to
speak for her.

The father, Michael Newdow (search), is in a protracted custody fight with
the girl's mother. He does not have sufficient custody of the child to
qualify as her legal representative, eight members of the court said.
Justice Antonin Scalia (search) did not participate in the case.

"When hard questions of domestic relations are sure to affect the outcome,
the prudent course is for the federal court to stay its hand rather than
reach out to resolve a weighty question of federal constitutional law,"
Justice John Paul Stevens wrote for the court.

Chief Justice William H. Rehnquist agreed with the outcome of the case, but
still wrote separately to say that the Pledge as recited by schoolchildren
does not violate the Constitution. Justices Sandra Day O'Connor (search) and
Clarence Thomas agreed with him.

The high court's lengthy opinion overturns a ruling two years ago that the
teacher-led pledge was unconstitutional in public schools. That appeals
court decision set off a national uproar and would have stripped the
reference to God from the version of the pledge said by about 9.6 million
schoolchildren in California and other western states.

The case involved Newdow's grade school daughter, who like most elementary
school children, hears the Pledge of Allegiance recited daily.

The First Amendment (search) guarantees that government will not "establish"
religion, wording that has come to mean a general ban on overt government
sponsorship of religion in public schools and elsewhere.

The Supreme Court has already said that schoolchildren cannot be required to
recite the oath that begins, "I pledge allegiance to the flag of the United
States of America."

The court has also repeatedly barred school-sponsored prayer from
classrooms, playing fields and school ceremonies.

The 9th U.S. Circuit Court of Appeals said the language of the First
Amendment and the Supreme Court's precedents make clear that tax-supported
schools cannot lend their imprimatur to a declaration of fealty of "one
nation under God."

The Bush administration, the girl's school and Newdow all asked the Supreme
Court to get involved in the case.

The administration had asked the high court to rule against Newdow, either
on the legal question of his ability to sue or on the constitutional issue.
The administration argued that the reference to God in the pledge is more
about ceremony and history than about religion.

The reference is an "official acknowledgment of our nation's religious
heritage," similar to the "In God We Trust" stamped on coins and bills,
Solicitor General Theodore Olson (search) argued to the court.

It is far-fetched to say such references pose a real danger of imposing
state-sponsored religion, Olson said.

Newdow claims a judge recently gave him joint custody of the girl, whose
name is not part of the legal papers filed with the Supreme Court.

The child's mother, Sandra Banning, told the court she has no objection to
the pledge. The full extent of the problems with the case was not apparent
until she filed papers at the high court, Stevens wrote Monday.

Newdow holds medical and legal degrees, and says he is an ordained minister.
He argued his own case at the court in March.

The case began when Newdow sued Congress, President Bush and others to
eliminate the words "under God." He asked for no damages.

The phrase "under God" was not part of the original pledge adopted by
Congress as a patriotic tribute in 1942, at the height of World War II.
Congress inserted the phrase more than a decade later, in 1954, when the
world had moved from hot war to cold.

Supporters of the new wording said it would set the United States apart from
godless communism.

The case is Elk Grove Unified School District v. Newdow, 02-1624.

The Associated Press contributed to this report.

Joaquin,
You are living proof that Satan walks the Earth. You are given the truth

(and
its supporters) that resulted in the greatest mass slaughter the world has
ever seen:
The Union of Soviet Socialist Republics, 62 million; the Peoples' Republic

The National Socialist German Workers' Party, 21 million.
In the interest of bipartisanship, I must ask what would you have us
replace freedom with? Why do you support socialism, and socialized schools
(government schools) where you know you are completely controlled and
limited
in what you teach and you jump for joy at any sop your government throws
you? Why don't you do what is right and leave the socialized schools, and
oppose the socialized schools that you have been duped into supporting? Do
you have any idea how confused you are about the situation you are in at a
socialized school, compared to what you could do at a non-government school?
You sound like a slave telling everyone that it is wonderful to be a slave,
and attacking those who tell you the truth. You have been duped for so
long, you cannot remember what freedom to teach is. By the way the US
Supreme court also recognizes your thinly veiled attack on the Good people

The Nazis were "socialist" in the same way that the Democratic People's
Republic of Korea is "democratic", or the Liberal Democratic Party in Russia
is either.

Item: Socialism requires worker ownership and control of the means of
production, or at least a nod in that direction. Nazis were not only
actively bankroleld by industrialists, they encouraged the centralisation of
ownership of production in the hands of private capitalist individuals.

Hitler's other policies likewise place him squarely in the right wing
conservative/reactionary/radical tradition.

Item: Socialist internationals all a least paid lip service to racial
tolerance and inclusion in pursuit of the inetrantional triumph of the
worker. Hitler advocated racism over racial tolerance,

Item: Hitler championed eugenics over freedom of reproduction, particularly
for "the lower orders".

Item: Hitler backed a spurious and race based meritocracy over genuine
equality which would have been the socialist position.

Item: Hitler first came to prominence as a reaction to the ascendency of teh
Munich commune socialists. His band of street thgugs were bankrolled by
aristocrats in Bavaria nervous over the implications of what was happening
in Munich.

*Item: The socialist tradition had always been internationalism over
nationalism. Hitler's nationalist and racist , economic, military and
domestic policies were diametrically opposed to the socialist agenda.

"The main plank in the National Socialist program is to abolish the
liberalistic concept of the individual and the Marxist concept of humanity
and to substitute for them the folk community, rooted in the soil and bound
together by the bond of its common blood."
-Adolf Hitler, quoted in 'Hitler, A Study in Tyranny', by Alan Bullock
(Harper Collins, NY)
